Basket Quilt- Pieced and Applique SOLD(Item: Q-883)
This is an exceptional circa 1880's Basket Quilt in very good condition. The 2 colors of indigo and white make this an excellent choice for decorating or collecting. The indigo fabric is the same throughout the quilt, so one knows that it was an intentional choice of the quiltmaker. The hand quilting is done at a nice 7 spi and for the binding the maker just stitched it down by machine. Probably an old treadle machine was used in finishing up the quilt. The baskets are hand pieced and the handle is appliqued onto the ground fabric. This antique quilt looks great on a wall or on a bed and note the difference in design and the border of triangles. Love that triple sashing and how visual the quilt is as seen displayed. The way the maker used the triangles on the edge really frames the rest of the quilt. Wouldn't we have liked to have know more about this quiltmaker and her/him dare to be different. From Ohio.
