Chintz Antique Quilt - SOLD(Item: Q-774)
Offering this fabulous whole cloth chintz quilt with the cut out corners that were made for the early 4 poster beds. The size is very generous and can actually fit many of todays beds. The condition of this quilt would be considered mint, as it doesn't show wear and has never been washed. The quilt was probably just put up and never was used after being made. A true treasure and a fabulous textile. It has a glaze finish and since unwashed still very evident. The quilting is done in a clam shell like pattern and is stitched at 8 spi. It has a thin batting and lays so nicely on a bed. The separate binding is stitched on by hand. Also what adds to this quilt is the bars backing and it is done with some wonderful early fabric as shown. When one thinks this quilt is now approximately 170-180 years old and so fine and gorgeous. Take a look at the close ups and imagine how life was back then and wonder about the maker of this quilt. What kind of family was it from? What kind of work did they do? One figures this would have been purchased fabric, as it was not a scrap quilt. Acquired in Pennsylvania.
