1897 Signed School House Antique Quilt SOLD(Item: Q-713)
This is a great pattern,,, the School House quilt,, Signed by many people and dated March 1897. What more can one ask?? Wonderful fabrics and excellent condition. Acquired in Massachusetts, so research can start! All hand quilted at a nice 9 spi.. The separate blue binding is stitched on by hand. So many popular fabrics of the 1890's. One the blocks is dated March 1897 with the name Mrs J. C. McCoy,, some of the other names are Mrs Whitlock, Mary Ann McCoy, Alberta McCoy, Tillie McCoy, Mabel McCoy, Mrs A J McCoy, Cora B McCoy, Jane McCoy, Maggie Micheals, Martha Wiley, Effie Jane Parker, Etta Bovard, Mrs. Ward, Rose McCoy, Jane Barnes, Ella Barnes, Anna Scholl, Hester, Barnes, and Minnie Wally. There's alot of the McCoy family and some others, so may it have been a very locally based group or mainly the family and a few friends? Some of the hand quilting is done in double line diagonal pattern, an indication of the time period.
