Minature 3 inch Baskets Quilt -1860's Signature-Sold(Item: Q-522)
This minature scale basket quilt has a real history of names on it.. The quilt has approximately 230 baskets and numerous names. The baskets are pieced and the handle is appliqued. The blocks are only 3 1/4 inches big. It is all hand quilted and also hand pieced. Unfortunately this quilt was really used and is not in the best of condition. There are about 82 baskets of the some 230 that have various degrees of wear from very slight to extensive.. There's a piece out of the corner and damage on the upper right side. This is more of a history quilt,, or like a favorite book that someone or many loved. The quilt came out of the New York area. Some of the names include N Stewart, Inez Porter, Miss Judith Rogers, Ethel Young, Frank Wheeler, Mrs A S Bassett, Miss Mattie Bassett, Jonathan Hanyes, Miss D Mills, Frank W Wale, and many more. Most of the names are legible and there are names in all of the blocks set between the baskets. This could be a real study quilt for the right person. This is a quilt I purchased because of the love for the pattern and the history that could possible be found with such a treasure trove of family names from over 140 plus years ago. I hope this quilt finds the home where it will be in better care than it had it its past and be loved and cherished. One may even find a decendant of one of the names found on the quilt.
