This Indiana Wreath Quilt which is signed and dated is a really wonderful example of applique and design. The condition
of this quilt is excellent. It is all hand quilted at a tiny 9-10 spi and also fine hand applique. The separate green
binding is hand whipped on. A couple slight yellow spots are shown. It is signed at the top "EOL Carl S Lamb" and dated
1949, as shown. The name and date is stitched on. The quilt colors are mostly solids of red, blue, lavender, yellow,
green and the basket is small scale checked fabric.
There is a quilt like this in America's Quilts and Coverlets by Stafford and Bishop, on page 182 image 266
and 266a. It notes in the book "A quilt was made with this pattern in 1930 by a lady in Colorado". This quilt
pattern is also found in "Quilts- Their Story and How to Make Them" by Marie D. Webster between pages 152 and 153.
The page shows a quilt made in 1858 with colours of red, green, yellow and pink. Information I found about this quilt
pattern mentioned this Indiana Wreath pattern was published in Mccall's in 1935.
What a special applique floral pattern quilt with the central basket full of flowers surrounded by flowers of many
colors and a border of vines. Beautiful quilting. It hangs and displays well. Great collectors quilt too. A super quilt
indeed!!
